The Young Arab Leaders Forum 2005 brought together a
diverse and select group of current and former public
figures, business leaders, senior representatives of
multinational corporations and key NGO representatives
to participate in a series of dynamic interactive
workshops. These workshops focused on how to deal with
the ever-evolving issues facing the Arab leader today.
Moreover, participants interacted with the most
accomplished Arab men and women from every sector in
boardroom-style meetings. The goal of the forum was to
develop an action plan that all the participants can
help implement during the coming year.

Special Highlights of Young Arab Leaders Forum 2005

- Presentation
of the Global Shell Scenarios 2020 on December
3 during which participants got an overview of
the Global Shell Scenarios for 2020 and an
understanding of the economic, social and
security trends faced by the Arab World.
- 6 industry
workshops (Real estate / Manufacturing and
Consumer goods / Energy / Financial Services /
Information and communication technologies /
Media) during which Young Arab Leaders
together with industry experts discussed the
main priorities of their industry and
identified together one concrete objective to
focus on for 2006.
- Al Arabiya
Live Debate on December 4 allowed Young Arab
Leaders and youth representatives to have an
open and interactive debate on the challenges
faced by younger generations and the possible
help they could receive by those who have
succeeded.
- Conclusion
and Presentation of 2006 Action Plan to His
Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
at the Closing plenary on December 4.

The award ceremony brought to a close the
two-day YAL forum. The price celebrates
leadership and excellence in the Arab world and
the winners are role models for young people in
the region. Their successes are inspiring
greater aspiration and achievement among a new
generation of Arab leaders.

Crown Prince attends the Reception held by YAL's
Executive Committee
His Highness Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown
Prince and BDF Commander In Chief has attended the
reception held by YAL's executive committee of Bahrain
Chapter yesterday evening at the Diplomat Hotel. He
praised the committee's initiative for inaugurating
YAL's Chapter activities in Bahrain emphasizing on his
full support for the organization.
He also commended the goals that the organization have
set out to accomplish its ambitious programs which
intend to change the manner of thinking especially in
terms of developing human resources and providing the
necessary environment which encourages the spirit of
cooperation and engages ideas and open opportunities
into the Arab countries. His Highness is proud of the
diversified initiatives perceived during his meeting
with members of the executive committee some of which
stresses on the exchange of experiences between the
public and private sectors and which connects the
organization with the scholarship project of Injaz.
His Highness and Crown Prince also emphasized on the
fact that such an organization requires great efforts to
be exerted and more time to be spent and, therefor,
aimed at the importance of supporting this Arabic
project which has launched one of its chapters in the
Kingdom of Bahrain while it is still under establishment
to accomplish more of strategic partnerships for the
development of young Arab leaders, as His Highness
wishes all success and prosperity for the organization
of Bahrain in achieving its objectives.
In his speech, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Isa Bin Mohammed Al
Khalifa, CEO of the Board of Economic Development and
Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Young Arab
Leaders Organization expressed his full thanks and
greatest appreciation for his Highness Crown Prince
Commander In Chief being the patronage of this event
which is held by the committee to highlight the
chapter's activities and programs.
He also expressed his desire for the Bahrain Chapter to
be able to contribute in enhancing YAL's approach and
vision and succeed in motivating those leaders toward a
broader future and greater horizon. Sheikh khalifa Bin
Daaj Al Khalifa, Chairman of the His Highness Crown
Prince Office, and Sheikh AbdAllah Bin Isa Al Khalifa,
Private Secretary of His Highness Crown Prince, have
also attended the Reception. It is worth mentioning that
the Young Arab Leaders Organization was first launched
last year as an independent pan-Arab organization which
aims at creating a group of high-potential young Arab
who are willing to employ their full time and effort to
create the necessary environment for future leaders to
grow and develop in the Arab region i.e. through
focusing on strategic partnership programs and
increasing the number of scholarship, mentorship and
internship programs available for Arab youth. Currently,
a number of selecting 500 members have joined the
organization from the Arab region and abroad.

Exchange Forum

The Young Arab Leaders organization and DaimlerChrysler,
one of the leading multinational companies in the world
come together once again, as a part of their strategic
partnership agreement, to organize the Arab European
Exchange Forum held in Stuttgart, Germany on 21st – 22nd
of September, 2005.
More than 30 members of the Young Arab Leaders
organization met for two consecutive days in Stuttgart
with top executives from DaimlerChrysler and other
European companies.
The AEEF was held under the patronage of DaimlerChrysler
CEO Professor Juergen E. Schrempp. It brought together
YAL members with Executives from the Europe to discuss
current economic issues and to deepen mutual
understanding. This annual conference will alternate
between Stuttgart and a city in the Arab world.

Clinton Global
Initiative
15 – 17 September 2005 in New York, U.S. |
Young Arab Leaders members lead by their chairman Mr
Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, participated in the
Clinton Global Initiative in Sept 2005. During their
visit to New York, the Young Arab Leaders announced
their latest initiative “Arab Business Challenge” and
held private meetings with Her Majesty Queen Rania of
Jordan and the Arab American Institution.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, announced the launch of
YAL's latest initiative 'Arab Business Challenge' during
his speech at the Clinton Global Initiative; YAL's
initiative aims to encourage and highlight the role of
the youth in the development process in all parts of the
Arab world.
During the Young Arab Leaders meeting with Her Majesty
Queen Rania, her majesty showed tremendous interest in
the organization and its activities. Queen Rania
highlighted her interest in participating at the YAL
Annual Forum.
The Young Arab Leaders organization's delegation to the
Clinton Global Initiative held a meeting with Head of
the Arab American Institute James Zogby and a group of
young Americans of Arab origin. During the meeting
issues of mutual cooperation were discussed besides
various vital issues of interest to Arab youth all over
the world.

Entrepreneurship - Forum and Exhibition 2005

Fostering Entrepreneurship in the Arab World: An Action
Plan
During the IEFE 2005, YAL organized a parallel programme
where decision-makers and entrepreneurs were invited to
discuss the obstacles facing the development of
entrepreneurship in the Arab world.
The session was led by top international speakers,
experts and entrepreneurs. Mustafa Abdel Wadood, Member
of the YAL Executive Committee chaired the session. The
speakers included Habib Al Mulla, Chairman, Dubai
Financial Service Authority; Kenneth Morse, Managing
Director, MIT Entrepreneurship Center; Rabea Ataya,
Founder, CEO, Bayt.com; Sameer Al Ansari, CEO of Dubai
International Capital and Shehab Gargash, Founder and
Director, Daman Securities.
YAL members and invited guests agreed that
entrepreneurship is becoming more and more the key to
solving various issues in the region, such as
unemployment or economic and social unrest. The
discussions revolved around the obstacles faced by
entrepreneurs at the different stages of building a
business in the Arab world. YAL members and guests had
roundtable discussions to brainstorm on possible
solutions to tackle the three main stages of
entrepreneurship:
- Idea Creation &
Innovation
- Starting up a Business
- Growing of the
Business
Many insights were shed
on the fundamental issues – from capital market
development to legislative and socio-economic frameworks.

Discussions will be continued during the YAL Annual Forum
in December 2005 to finalize the action plan for 2006.

World Economic
Forum - Arab World Competitive Roundtable

YAL members met at the World Economic Forum – Arab World
Competitiveness Roundtable in Doha, Qatar. They
participated in various sessions within the program. In
the afternoon, the members took the opportunity to
update each other on recent developments: in particular
discussing local chapter news as well as issues
pertaining to youth development initiatives amongst the
different countries. The event was attended by members
from several countries including UAE, Egypt, Jordan,
Qatar, Kuwait and Morocco.

The main themes of the workshop organized by the Young
Arabic Leaders at the forum were how to revive the glory
of the Arab world, how to activate high development
rates and how to ensure a young corps of competent and
efficient leadership for the future. The Arab Strategy
Forum, which took place in December 2004 in Dubai,
presented an ideal platform referring to the workshop,
where some of the greatest thinkers, leaders and
managers of today gathered. Besides the workshop a
concrete action plan has been agreed upon amongst the
Executive Committee in consultation with members and
experts presented at the Forum.

YAL guests were invited to 2 days of presentations by
the world leaders in management: Jack Welch, Michael
Porter, Lester Thurow and Frank McGuire gave inspiring
speeches.
YAL guests were treated to an exclusive event with one
of the speakers, Mr. Alvin Toffler, perhaps the most
influential futurologist in the world. The members
exchanged ideas with Mr. Toffler, particularly regarding
the role the community can play in developing the
region. Chairman of YAL, Mohammad Al Gergawi inaugurated
the event.

YAL inaugurated country chapters across the region and
aims to further expand the Arab community. Chapters
